PASTORAL COUNCIL MINUTES
December 15, 2011 (Summarized) St. John’s Parish Mission Statement: St. John the Evangelist of Wahpeton, a Catholic community of faithful stewards, uniquely gifted, is committed to living fully a spiritual life. We accomplish this mission by: † Celebrating a sacramental life; † Being a hospitable, generous, faithful, and forgiving people; † Serving as a renewing community of life and love; † Supporting all people in their journey toward the Kingdom of God. Parish Goal One: To have functioning, inspiring and welcoming religious grounds that will meet the present and future needs of the parish and community by developing and implementing a plan for addressing the education facility needs. Parish Goal Two: To promote continual spiritual growth and fuller participation throughout the parish. We will obtain this goal by researching, developing and implementing a renewal process; developing effective methods for evangelization; developing effective methods for increasing participation by all; promoting enrollment in the parish school and by creating effective communication tools. OLD BUSINESS: APOSTOLIC WORKS: Money for students has been wired to Tanzania. BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS: There is loose flashing on the church roof that is being checked out. The buttons for opening the doors for handicapped accessibility have been installed. Looking at buttons for bathroom doors. YOUTH:Chaperones are needed for Catholic Heart Workcamp,2 students and possibly a third are signed up. EVANGELIZATION: New books, CD’s and charms have been received. Matthew Kelly has a new book about passing faith on to children. PROJECT WRAP UP: Pastoral Council approved going ahead with the rectory and parking lot project so building can begin as soon as funds are available. PROJECT WRAP UP: Working on finalizing plans. PROLIFE: 5 people attended the November showing of the DVD ‘Blood Money’. $425 was raised from the breakfast for Samantha Helland’s trip to Washington DC for the Walk for Life. 40 lives have been saved since the ‘40 Days for Life’ started. NEW BUSINESS: United Way is looking to partner with St. John’s and the Ministerial Association for a back pack Children’s Nutrition Program. After discussion it was decided that we would participate in the program.
