PASTORAL COUNCIL MINUTES
February 28, 2013 (Summarized) St. John’s Parish Mission Statement: St. John the Evangelist of Wahpeton, a Catholic community of faithful stewards, uniquely gifted, is committed to living fully a spiritual life. We accomplish this mission by: † Celebrating a sacramental life; † Being a hospitable, generous, faithful, and forgiving people; † Serving as a renewing community of life and love; † Supporting all people in their journey toward the Kingdom of God. Parish Goal One: To have functioning, inspiring and welcoming religious grounds that will meet the present and future needs of the parish and community by developing and implementing a plan for addressing the education facility needs. Parish Goal Two: To promote continual spiritual growth and fuller participation throughout the parish. We will obtain this goal by researching, developing and implementing a renewal process; developing effective methods for evangelization; developing effective methods for increasing participation by all; promoting enrollment in the parish school and by creating effective communication tools. OLD BUSINESS: Youth: 32 youth attended the rescheduled ski trip. Deadlines are coming for Catholic Heart Workkamp and Stuebenville, would like 4 more to make the trip. Will be starting fund raisers for upcoming events. Buildings and Grounds: No heat in KC room, checking on rooftop heating units. Will be running ad in Fargo Forum for the old rectory. Checking out information on security cameras. Finance: New computers have been installed at the school. Prolife: Year of Faith insert in the bulletin regarding end of life directives. A reminder was given to contact state legislators about pro-life issues. Building Project: Rectory is close to completion. Next step is to work on parking lots and tearing down the old school. Welcoming: Committee will be distributing Easter eggs again this year. Neighborhood Groups: There are a lot of problems keeping up to date with our parishioners. Would like all households to keep us informed of new phone numbers, personal situations, etc. They are looking at having kitchen coordinators and would like to have rotation in leadership. NEW BUSINESS: Bible study about Sunday Scriptures is going well. PASTOR'S REMARKS: Chrism Mass at the Cathedral will be Tuesday, March 26th at 11:00 am. Parish Mission starts March 10th. Men’s Cursillo will be March 14th - 16th, Women’s Cursillo will start April 11th. Confirmation is April 14th. Next Meeting: Thursday, April 25, 2013 at 7:00 pm in the East Room (Parishioners are encouraged to attend Pastoral Meetings) Complete minutes available in the Parish Office.
