PASTORAL COUNCIL MINUTES
                        26 June 2008 (Summarized)

St. John’s Parish Mission Statement: St. John the Evangelist of Wahpeton, a Catholic community of faithful stewards, uniquely gifted, is committed to living fully a spiritual life. We accomplish this mission by:
      † Celebrating a sacramental life;
      † Being a hospitable, generous, faithful, and forgiving people;
      † Serving as a renewing community of life and love;
      † Supporting all people in their journey toward the Kingdom of God.

Parish Goal One: To have functioning, inspiring and welcoming religious grounds that will meet the present and future needs of the parish and community by developing and implementing a plan for addressing the education facility needs.

Parish Goal Two: To promote continual spiritual growth and fuller participation throughout the parish. We will obtain this goal by researching, developing and implementing a renewal process; developing effective methods for evangelization; developing effective methods for increasing participation by all; promoting enrollment in the parish school and by creating effective communication tools.

OLD BUSINESS:

CAPITAL CAMPAIGN: The latest drawings of the buildings were reviewed, the base plan is $3M with an alternate plan of $4M. The bishop requires that we have a plan to reach $4M before we break ground on that plan. Currently work is in progress on the vacation of property to the north of the school. A meeting was held with the Diocesan building committee to get input on the plans. A report will be submitted to Fr. Dale.

BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS: Two trees have been removed, one at the Newman Center and one next to the school. The upstairs windows in the rectory are in bad shape and need to be replaced.

NEW BUSINESS:

The parish picnic will be on September 7^th at Hughes Shelter in Chahinkapa Park. Fr. Dodge is attending a program in Valley City called “Good Shepherds, Good Leaders”. This program will be ongoing for 2 years.

PASTORS REMARKS: The school is doing well, Pre-school is full and the numbers are up. Fr. Dodge and Fr. Dale will be attending Priest Fest at University of Mary, Bismarck. Fr. Dale will be gone from August 1^st to the 14^th for a vacation in Poland. The Calmelite Pilgrimage will be August 17^th, Mass at 5:00 pm. School starts August 25^th. Fr. Dodge will be responsible for NDSCS outreach and the ministerial association will host a pizza party on the 25^th.
