25 May 2017 (Summarized
St. John’s Parish Mission Statement: St. John the Evangelist of Wahpeton, a Catholic community of faithful stewards, uniquely gifted, is committed to living fully a spiritual life. We accomplish this mission by:
† Celebrating a sacramental life;
† Being a hospitable, generous, faithful, and forgiving people;
† Serving as a renewing community of life and love;
† Supporting all people in their journey toward the Kingdom of God.
Parish Goal One: To have functioning, inspiring and welcoming religious grounds that will meet the present and future needs of the parish and community by developing and implementing a plan for addressing the education facility needs.
Parish Goal Two: To promote continual spiritual growth and fuller participation throughout the parish. We will obtain this goal by researching, developing and implementing a renewal process; developing effective methods for evangelization; developing effective methods for increasing participation by all; promoting enrollment in the parish school and by creating effective communication tools.
Pro-Life: Diocesan Respect Life Office has asked us to host ‘Morning of Remembrance’ next year on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade. This is tentatively set for January 20th.
Buildings and Grounds: Shorma house is sold. The Newman Center is for sale, somebody would get a good deal. Gast Construction did testing for water leaks, thinks that the water is coming from a door in the school.
Youth:17 people will be traveling to Jamaica on a Mission trip on June 5th. They will be visiting the Alexander Basic School, an afternoon at an orphanage with children with HIV, building a greenhouse and a house. Will be leaving from Fargo. VBS starts June 19th . “Made by God for a Purpose”, already have around 40 signed up, volunteers are needed. Around 46 will be traveling to Steubenville.
New Business: There is a 2% increase in the budget, there is no room for anything new. If Sunday giving would increase our problems would be resolved. New budget passed.
The parking lot is in the future, an electronic sign should be the priority. Changing lights to LED was suggested, cost would be saved in less than a year.
Pastor Remarks: Robert Foertsch, seminarian from Wyndmere, will be with us for a while this summer. There are 3 being ordained to the priesthood. Fr. Dale’s 45th anniversary will be June 25th, Barbecued rib dinner will be served.
July 27th at 7:00 pm in the East Room
